The generator feeds a single energy reserve of up to 900 units. Every gun volley and every shield point is paid from it.

Compare a generator with the power use listed for each weapon: a Pulse-Cannon volley, for example, costs 30 energy. A generator that produces less than your guns and shield consume empties its reserve and your fire rate drops.
