Tyrian saves and files
Your files live in a userdata folder next to the game, created on first launch. Copy the game folder and your
game goes with it; delete userdata to start fresh.
Where the files are
If the game folder is not writable (for example under Program Files, or on read-only media), and on macOS, the same files go to the Godot user folder instead:
| System | Fallback folder |
|---|---|
| Windows | %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\OpenTyrian2000 Enhanced\ |
| Linux / Steam Deck | ~/.local/share/godot/app_userdata/OpenTyrian2000 Enhanced/ |
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/OpenTyrian2000 Enhanced/ |
What is in it
| File or folder | Contents |
|---|---|
saves/slot_01.json … slot_11.json | Campaign saves, one readable JSON file per slot. |
controls.cfg | Your controls. |
setup.cfg | Setup menu settings. |
display.cfg | Graphics mode, CRT, scaler and scaling mode. |
mods.cfg and mods/ | Which mods are on, and the mods themselves. |
endless_leaderboard.json | The Endless top 10. |
endless_run.json | The Endless run in progress (deleted at game over). |
replays/ | Recorded replays. |
opentyrian.dat | A file in the original format, used for achievements. |
Campaign saves
- Save in the shop: Options → Save Game, a slot from 1 to 10, a name of up to 14 characters, then YES. The game resumes in the shop where you saved.
- Slot 11, LAST LEVEL, is written automatically before every level. You can load it but not overwrite it.
- F5 in a campaign level writes a quick save; F9 loads it.
- Each save names everything by its in-game name: ship, weapons and their power, shield, generator, sidekicks, special, money, episode and difficulty.
- A damaged save, or one written by a newer version, shows as Unreadable; the other slots are not affected.
Replays
Press F10 in a level to record from the start of the next level. Files are saved as replays/YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS.rep and
appear in the Replays screen. A replay stores the level, your equipment, the mutators and your inputs, frame by frame.
